Apparently, it is cheaper to purchase an apartment in New York if you don't have extra costs like doormen, or elevators. With that in mind, the New York Times reports that
Walk-Up Apartments are Trending Up.

I don't get why people would accept a place on the fifth floor, say, that they have to walk up to. I didn't like living on the third floor in my dorm in school, and that's when I was young and in shape.
Only in a place like New York does this make sense to the real estate owners.
