Thinking of being a landlord?  There's no doubt it can be a path to financial security, or supplement what you are already doing.  Properties are still comparatively affordable, rents in this area have been stable, the opportunity is definitely there.

On the other hand, people are living in a house you own, they may not pay you, and it is a lot of emotion and stress.  What to do?

Although I can brag of a certain amount of success, becoming a landlord was something that I thought about for twenty years before I started.  It's obviously a big step.  It is a very hands-on thing, more than you are guessing.  If that's not for you, then buy an S&P 500 index fund and you will be fine.
